Bombardier Regina X50 regional Passenger service
September 2017 – ongoing
D-rail is a company with great drive and commitment. They have shown that it is really possible to solve a lot of the railway’s problems. Collaborating with D-rail is easy and inspiring since their technology is at the forefront, combined with genuine knowledge of the railway’s specific conditions. The difference between D-rail and other monitoring companies is their ability to identify what’s critical and what real problems there are.
D-Rail has tremendous potential. They enable a transformation from being completely in the dark to getting a full overview. The difference will be seen in much better monitoring accessibility and large cost savings. After an introduction, you will most likely also see new connections between different deviations on the railway network – that will give even greater effects than we can imagine. All parts of the railway are connected together and deficiencies in the infrastructure can e.g. create damage to vehicles that we see today as inevitable but which we can better reduce or eliminate with better control. However, the step is great because it puts the entire railway sector’s worked routines upside down and challenges their current working methods. It might take some time to change a whole industry, but since their technology is so good – it’s only a matter of how long before it lifts.

In Stockholm MTR operates the commuter trains. The rolling stock fleet consists of 129 trainsets. On three of these D-RAIL monitoring system is installed and provides a real time view of the infrastructure status. The measured data is accessed online from any device and show the information regarding the maintenance need.

Win win by working together.
GoAhead Nordic spotted that there was an abnormal amount of wheel problems on one particular fleet dedicated for one route.
They started a root cause analyzis earlier this year, determined to keep the availability up and the costs down.
They contacted D-RAIL to help measure the infrastructure as it is felt by the trains.
This can give insight if the infrastructure giving the wheelsets accumulated damage somewhere along the route.
The route is +650 km long with alot of tunnels and a demanding environment for IOT and remote connection.
And to add, Covid crisis.
D-RAIL shipped a sensor system to the maintainer Mantena who installed the equipment quickly. And was after the installation up and running with real data regarding the interaction between wheels and tracks. The complete route can now be adressed to the positions with the highest impacts.
There is a difference between track geometry from a measurement train and a regular train.
We now show both geometry as felt by the train and also impact positions in mss.
Live, online and trending everyday when the train drives.
“IT IS THE FUTURE” – says Matt Kinane operations director GoAhead Nordic.
